Windows 7 is now available for pre-order, but in the beta many of the Vista-compatible anti-virus / firewall etc didn't work.

Can anybody recommend some that work now?

I use Nod32 and it works fine with Windows 7 RC. Yesterday it even notified me about uninstalled critical update for Windows 7.

Interesting; I've used Nod32 before and liked it - I may well go back in that direction. – Marc Gravell Jul 15 '09 at 7:52

Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials (codenamed Morro) is a free antivirus software created by Microsoft that provides protection against viruses, spyware, rootkits, and trojans for Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

Nice idea to have something actually from Microsoft which is strongly integrated with the OS... but it's currently a closed beta and they're not taking new participants now. Wikipedia says it's expected to be released by the end of 2009. – Doug Harris Jul 29 '09 at 14:20

I think you can actually download it from Softpedia. softpedia.com/progDownload/… I use it on Windows 7 64bit and it works like a charm. It updates through Windows update. – miloshadzic Aug 20 '09 at 21:35

I like AVG myself, works just fine on Windows 7.

I use the lastest Avast Home Edition. It's free when registered and it works perfectly on Windows 7.

We use McAfee Enterprise 8.7i at the office which is also fully Windows 7 compliant.

I've been using Avast from Beta thru the RC and now in the final version. Never had an issue -- i'd highly recommend it. – NighTerrorX Aug 20 '09 at 21:51

I'll give put in another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials. It works well, it's easy to use, it's fast, and it's lightweight on the system (no slow downs).

Been using Comodo Internet Security (Firewall/Antivirus) with the RC without any issues, plan to continue on the RTM when I can get the time to get it installed.

All the big names will have AV available before Win 7 gets released. Most of them already have them available here

At work we are using Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 and it works perfectly fine.

funny how the link lists a lot of the products I've tried and strongly disliked, but mentions nothing of products I found to work really really well... like COMODO. – NixNinja Oct 5 '10 at 10:22

I've was using AVG myself on Windows 7 untill I needed the disk for something else and wiped Windows 7 off.

But now I'd be tempted to take a look at Microsoft Morro as this should offer minimum bloat and direct hooks into the OS. Especially an even AVG is starting to add 'features' (that aren't required)!

I'll keep an eye on that one, thanks. – Marc Gravell Jul 15 '09 at 7:55

I'm currently testing Pandacloud and it seems to work pretty well, other than the fact that it resides in the cloud mostly. Low pc resources which is always good.

I use Brain Anti-Virus for this very same purpose. Really, none of my machines had seen an anti-virus software for years and they're just fine. Anti-viruses are supplements for brain when it comes to computer usage.
