I still have Windows 8 CP installed. Will Microsoft lock down my operating system now that the final version is released?

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

I've retagged this question to remove the windows 8 preview tag. The plain old windows 8 tag is only for questions relating to the release version. –  Journeyman Geek Oct 28 '12 at 1:32
This question relates to both versions though, correct? –  Caleb Jares Oct 28 '12 at 1:32
@cable729: No; this has nothing to do with the release version. –  SLaks Oct 28 '12 at 1:34
Nope it dosen't. This isn't 'just' contest related, but since this is an issue unique to the CP and RP, having the 'standard' windows 8 tag on posts to do with the preview makes tag searches harder - this is the reason we even created the preview tag. One the CP and RP expire, we're also going to have to go through these posts and decide what to keep and what to delete. –  Journeyman Geek Oct 28 '12 at 1:35
Alright, I'll take your word for it =) –  Caleb Jares Oct 28 '12 at 1:35

The Consumer Preview, as well as the newer Release Preview, will stop working on January 15, 2013.
This was announced when the previews were first released.

After this date, the previews will automatically restart every hour.

Nice find on the hourly restarts. –  Caleb Jares Oct 28 '12 at 1:32

Yes, both the Consumer Preview (Build 8250, CP), and the Release Candidate (Build 8400, RC) will expire on January 15, 2013 at 7:59 ET.

To find this yourself, you can run winver.exe
