What type of (preferably free) software can record a conversation between two people who are in different cities? This needs to be done so they can use it on their podcast.

I've tried testing Google Voice's ability to record phone calls, but at 16kbps the quality is unacceptable.

The simpler the solution the better because I don't know how comfortable these people are with software.

You could both call into the same conference room and use the conference room's recording services to deal with it - e.g. will provide such a service.

Another is to put it locally on speaker and use any common voice recording device (some iPhones even have this feature).

thanks for the suggestion, but after trying GV I realized that whatever codec a phone call uses might have too low a bitrate to sound good for a podcast. – Louis Nov 1 '12 at 16:00
