I have 2 columns one is list and other is data validation with dropdown from that list,

reference (the table where I use that list)

The formula for the list is =OFFSET($B$2,0,0,COUNTA(B:B)-1)

When I change value of item in the list, the list reference cell that uses that data does not update.

Say I change three to four in list row 3, the reference will still show three.

Does it update when you hit 'calculate now' on the 'Formulas' tab? – TheUser1024 Nov 5 '12 at 18:13
To quote "You use data validation to control the type of data or the values that users enter into a cell." If I understand the question, changing three to four in the list does not count as data entry to the validated cell, so (as you have found) there is no 'updating'. Maybe the best you can hope for is to apply Circle Invalid Data to identify the discrepancy. – pnuts Nov 7 '12 at 17:02
