After installing Gentoo base system (no GUI or even X.org is installed yet) the screen blanks for about a second once in a while when the system is idle. After I set precise interval via setterm -blank 1 I found out that setterm successfully blanks the screen after the given interval but apparently something wakes it up immediately.

Any idea on what should be fixed or what logs should I dig into to figure out what's actually going on?

Perhaps the gpm daemon registers tiny mouse movements? – Ярослав Рахматуллин Nov 29 '12 at 22:56

Might be. However once in X session, everything works fine. So I might not dig into it. – zoresvit Dec 1 '12 at 8:27
