I have an Acer notebook, in which the monitor cable is broken and thus the LCD display doesn't work.

The computer itself seems to be working properly though and all I'd like to do now is to install Ubuntu Server on it, so that later I can access it with shell. Therefore, I don't need any monitor on it.

What I need to do, though, is to get at least an external monitor running so that I can install the OS, but this doesn't seem to be working.

When I connect an external monitor to the RGB port, it doesn't work either. I guess the BIOS defaults to the internal monitor and doesn't even try. How would I make the external monitor work?
