Excel can prepare pivot charts and tables based on tabular data on an Excel sheet.

I am looking for a way to highlight sections of the pivot chart or table to easily see where a specific single record from the tabular source data is shown under on the chart or table.

It can be based on moving the mouse focus to some data record or maybe adding a dummy column to source data and marking record with a predefined value.

Also the result does not have to be highlighting. Anything to make the records stand out will do.

Edit: Example: Consider a pivot pie chart showing revenue per product. What I want is: I select (or mark) a row in the underlying tabular data and the slice in the pivot chart that contains the row is highlighted.

I think you'll have to create a custom add-in if you're determined to get this. You would have to implement it yourself. There's no built-in way. –  allquixotic Nov 27 '12 at 16:11
