I want to understand the function of Virtualization Technology(VT), it is an option in the BIOS, but in the info they recommend not to enable it until required.

I was installing Backtrack 5 R2 64 bit in my VMware 8 it prompted me to enable VT though after enabling VT my Backtrack got installed but I want to understand the concept behind VT.
