I tried using the Windows 7 install disc to do a system repair, but I just get errors: Windows cannot automatically make repairs.

Sounds like you have dualbooted your computer with some Linux distro. GRUB is a commen used Bootloader for Linux. You should either boot a Linux liveCD and fix GRUB or fix your Windows MBR. If you fix MBR on with Windows, you wont be able to dualboot anymore.
