When I'm using an earphone for my laptop, the sound is unbearably loud than when I'm using speaker.

In Control Panel -> Sound, it seems that both of the laptop-embedded speaker and earphone are controlled by 'Speakers/Headphones' device. Thus I cannot adjust the volume separately. If I don't want to buy another device, is there any way I can adjust them using software or within from Windows 7?

My laptop is Dell New Inspiron 14z, and 'IDT High Definition Audio CODEC' is used both for 'Speakers/Headphones' and 'Communications Headphones'.

You can't adjust the volume separately because they're the same device being output to two different outputs. The only solution would be to amplify (externally) the signal going to your earphones. – Ian Atkin Dec 6 '12 at 22:03
