How do you manage your personal photos in Windows?
Best Photo Management Software

I have a lot of digital photos and would like to:

  • catalog them with ease (tags, timeline, groups, etc)
  • be able to access the catalog on many home computers
  • backup and restore the whole catalog to/from DVD-R, HDD, Flash
  • be sure it will not be stored in closed format, so can be used, say, in year 2020

Currently I am using Adobe Photoshop Album which is great, but it is not free. This is costly if you have a few home computers, and additionally Adobe is upgrading the software every year and the upgrade is not free, and not cheap.

Could you recommend some free photo management programs for windows to test? Ideally the one can import from Adobe Album, but not necessary.

I am trying to avoid things like Google Picasa to keep my privacy.

Picasa is pretty good.

I am not sure why you are concerned about your privacy with this product, as far as I know unless you upload your photos to Web Albums all the information and photos are stored only on your computer
