I'm trying to boot and run Windows 8 from a Hitachi 320GB SATA External HDD, the HDD already has Windows 8 installed with a 100Mb boot partition. When i try to bcdboot c:\windows I get failure when attempting to copy boot files.

I also tried other variations of the command but all with the same result.

Partition is already Active, if i need to provide any other info please tell me.

I'm running Windows 7 from 32GB pendrive, 6GB of RAM, broken SATA port(that's the reason of everything), i have windows 8 original DVD.

Tips are welcome.

Do you have Win8 Enterprise? If not, are you following the exact steps detailed here? – Karan Dec 24 '12 at 20:48
