Linux:Mint 14 Mate

I am trying to bind the left control to open the Run Dialog on Linux, usually opened by Alt-F2 , but the configuration manager refuse to assign this single key to a macro.

I tried using xmodmap to remap it to key bad subtract which is "KP_Subtract", this key can be used for this purpose. but this did not work although the key turned into (-) it didn't run the dialog. you can run the dialog from the (-) on the key pad.

between the tries I succeeded for a temporary time, but that is it!

I tried this today on a friend Ubuntu and it worked after remaping with xmodmap.

Any idea ?
