I am looking for a way to boot Linux directly into my Adobe Air desktop application. I don't want the machine to be able to do anything else beside running my application, except for being able to shutdown and restart the machine.

If you want to spare yourself out some time, you could look into how to change your current distro to do what you want; it'll involve changing your upstart / openrc / systemd to not boot into a DM or TTY but instead boot into an X session, how to do that depends on which one you use...
