I am new to thunderbird. My messages as replies all have ther "A" character at the end of every line of text following the period.

Original messages do not have this character in them....only replies! I have tried changing encoding features under tools, display, etc. and can not find a correction to the problem.

The present encoding for both incoming and out going is "Western ISO-8859-1" . I can change these codes, close my computer, and on reopening, these code are back to the above code as though I'd never changed them. I can't find where they are set as defaults.

Can you help?
