The problem started when a red cross mark appeared on my sound icon. I installed and reinstalled the Realtek driver several times, but nothing happened.
I googled the problem. Some suggested enabling onboard radio, but I cannot find that option in my BIOS. When I installed the Realtek drivers, I checked the C: drive for installed files, but the Realtek folder doesn't contain any files (just 3.7 MB).
I used msinfo32.exe and found the sound device. It is displayed as follows:
- Name: High definition audio device
- Manufacturer: Microsoft
- Status: OK
Device Manager → Sound and Game Controllers also shows "High definition audio device". I tried the driver update option but it's already up-to-date. Still there is no sound.
How can I fix this?
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on an ASUS P5G41T-M LX.
