Drag and drop images from a webpage into a local folder

Question

I used to have this problem on my Windows XP, and then Vista computer and managed to find a fix to stop it happening - but I can't find any information this time round.

I am using IE8 and Windows 7 Ultimate (RTM).

When I attempt to drag an image from a webpage to my desktop, or a local folder I get a dialog with the question: Do you want to allow files from this website to be copied to your computer:

How can I get rid of this, so that I can drag and drop without any interuption?

I know it was possible in previous versions of Windows as I overcame it. I also have a recolection that it is not an IE setting but instead an OS one (bourne out by the comment here).

That's definitely NOT the easiest way to create a new registry file. Here is the easiest method;

1. Start NOTEPAD.EXE
2. Paste text
3. Add quotes "" around the "filename.reg". For example; "new.reg"

By the way, that was a much appreciated solution to an unwanted security prompt (thank you).

Use the following Registry hacks to remove the prompt:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\4]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\4]
@=""
"180B"=dword:00000000

Copy and paste that code into a new .REG file, then apply it to your own Registry by double-clicking the newly-created file.

Martin's solution works - thanks.

To create a new .reg file the easiest way is to modify an existing registry file. You should do this with a small exported chunk of the registry:

1. Open regedit (type regedit in Start > Search...)

2. Find any registry key.

3. Export the key and save it where you can find it. Close regedit.

4. Edit the exported .reg file. (right click > Edit). Delete all the text and replace it with the text above. Save it. Close the file.

5. Open your .reg file (double-click) - accept all options and your registry should be modified.

Don't forget to backup the registry first!
