I made changes via parted (Ubuntu box) to a 16GB SDHC card that disappeared it off the system. I need help reversing those.
When I put the card in a reader and that into a USB port, it doesn't appear in the df output. My dmesg output ends thus:
[36547.776018] usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7 [36548.418154] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [36548.423665] scsi13 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [36548.423791] usb-storage: device found at 7 [36548.423793] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [36553.420237] usb-storage: device scan complete [36553.505870] scsi 13:0:0:0: Direct-Access Sony Card_R/W 4.30 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS [36553.506334] sd 13:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0 [36554.154165] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] 31116288 512-byte logical blocks: (15.9 GB/14.8 GiB) [36554.154907] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off [36554.154910] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 [36554.154913] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through [36554.157284] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through [36554.157288] sdc: sdc1 [36554.160537] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through [36554.160542] sd 13:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk
I got here by these steps:
- Put card, in card reader, in USB slot
- Found device name as /dev/sdc1 via df
- umount /dev/sdc
- sudo parted /dev/sdc
- mklabel msdos
- mkpart primary /dev/sdc 0.0 -1s (parted advised this was "not best for performance" or somesuch, I ignored this)
- quit parted on quit parted advised that I might need to update /etc/fstab.
After this card did not appear on the filesystem. df couldn't find it. I rebooted the computer, still can't see it.
Any help fixing this, or an authoritative statement that it's bricked, would be appreciated. Thx.
