Every so often I find that towards the end of the month I have a reasonable quantity of data left to utilize before the next billing period begins.

So what do you like to download at the end of the month to use up remaining plan allowance data?

  • Some Linux distros you may use in the future, including different architectures "just in case"?
  • Some beta/release-candidate software?
  • Some game demos on Steam (or elsewhere)?
  • Service pack redistributables?

If you must have a question like this, it would probably be best as a community wiki. – David Pearce Oct 9 '09 at 4:41

Why do you absolutely have to use up your allocated data quantity? If you don't need anything special, just don't download it. And keep the tubes "free" for people who really need to download important stuff?

good point, share the tubes be a good netizen. – Nick Josevski Oct 9 '09 at 10:44

I suggest you consider reducing the allowed amount of traffic per billing period.
This could put your money to better use than downloading stuff you don't really need.
Of course, this may not be possible depending on your ISP.

Some ISO files, but mostly video podcasts/tutorials.

Porn?

No, seriously. I keep a .txt with all the movies, games, programs, etc that I'm waiting for to be released (and expected date if I got any), and from time to time I launch mininova and start fishing. You could do that when you want to burn the pipes :-)

With the 'being a good netizen' concept in mind, try finding something of large file size on a legal torrents site like:

http://LegalTorrents.com

You can also select large things to download that you may not necessarily want for yourself, but hard drive space permitting you can achieve these objectives:

  • Use some of the excess download capacity you have.
  • Have those files the future when you or someone you know may want them.
  • Be contributing to the general health of the torrent by at first being a peer, then a seeder.
