Sometimes you see the question:
Do I need a Mac with dedicated graphics if I only work with Illustrator?
The premise is that since these types of applications do not generally utilize the GPU, you will be just as well off with integrated graphics only.
However, I vaguely recall something about all graphics (including icons, windows, the mouse pointer and so on) being based on Quarz Extreme or Core Image, which in turn rely on hardware acceleration, thereby benefiting from a decent GPU.
So, is there any merit to the idea that hardware graphics benefit any application, not only games and specifically hardware-enabled apps?
