I have a HP DV6225US which turns on for about 3 seconds and then shuts down.

I was working fine when I left work and now it is refusing to start. Any suggestions as to why?

You really need to provide more information, Elmaskbron. Does it boot into the operating system and shutdowns only then, or does it shutdown 3 seconds after you turn it on? – A Dwarf Oct 10 '09 at 0:42

Also does it do the same thing while plugged in and when running on battery? What about taking the battery out and plugging the computer in? – regan Oct 10 '09 at 1:02

Sounds like a stuck power button. If you press and hold the power button, default is for ACPI 4 second power button override to put the computer into ACPI S5 state (soft off).
