I have to routinely backup 40G of data from one lenovo Thinkpad E430 to a Toshiba C640 laptop I connected them both to a wireless netgear N300 router. This has upto 300 Mbps limit. Though I use the wired ports (i.e. connect both the laptop to the wired ports of the router) When I transfer files, I get max 200 kbps speed while copying files. On the other hand, if I download anything from the internet on any of the machines through the router, I get the usual 4 - 8 Mbps speed. I then replaced this with Belkin N150 router with the same result. I looked through the LAN settings to see if the router settings need to be modified for communication between LAN hosts but did not find anything.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Any info will be useful Thanks.

Not really a good question for SuperUser as it is an open rather than closed question so there isn't really a specific answer. In addition, you need to provide more information. What OS? What are you using to do the copy? Windows Explorer? Command line? – Julian Knight Jan 24 at 21:57
