I am looking for a distraction free typewriting application, that has typewriting functionality. This means, that you have an option to disable backspace deletion.

I am working on Win 8, but would like to find a programm that also can run under Ubuntu.

I already found an easy solution for getting this functionality using vim (Link), but I am looking for full applications.

The requirements are:

  • Text editor/text processor
  • Distraction free mode, i.e. full screen mode with displaying text only
  • Option to disable backspace and delete keys
  • Open-Source
  • Cross-Plattform (Win, Linux, Mac)

What is available?

You don't state your environment, I'll answer for Linux. At least for emacs and xemacs you can redefine what each key does, so that would fit part of your bill. I believe the vi successors, like vim, also have such functionality. A cursory look at joe's configuration hints at similar possibilities. – vonbrand Jan 30 at 17:34
