I have this Asus computer that I bought recently and I'm trying to install my new intel 520 series SSD into it.

When the computer boots, the BIOS recognizes the new drive. When I get into Windows 8, the Device Manager recognizes the drive. When I use the Intel Toolbox, I see the drive and the SMART check and Health checks all look positive. When I open Disk Management to format the drive, the drive appears.

This is where the problems start. I try to format the drive and the format fails "the drive was not formatted successfully" and the drive suddenly disappears from the Intel Toolbox, the Disk Management screen, etc.

I modified the BIOS so that the SATA controller is using AHCI. I tried various combinations of wires (swapped the 7200RPM drive's cable with the SSD cable, to no avail)

Any thoughts?
