Please direct this kind of questions to SuperUser.com, you'll get beter help there. Also, you'll get better help if you show you've tried to establish the basic perimeter of your question and to answer it yourself! For example, with so many free ftp around, what feature(s) do you with to emphasize? – mjv Oct 13 '09 at 5:09

Checkout the Filezilla Server. (that being said, it might be helpful to know what OS you are targeting)

I think he is looking for hosting, not hosting his own server. – heavyd Oct 13 '09 at 5:25

Here are a couple of FTP hosting services:

There are no unlimited ftp sites (as distinct from client).

The following chart contains Online storage and price comparison. Most services have a basic plan which is free (and limited).

If you're just looking for a solution for sharing files, I would say that the easiest (and largest and cheapest) is probably Gmail, although not strictly an FTP server, together with GMail Drive shell extension or the Firefox add-on Gspace.

How much data are we talking about? If it is under 5 gigs, I would recommend Mesh. It even has built in synchronization so you don't have to copy your files anywhere. There is also Windows Live SkyDrive which gives you 25 gigs of space for free, but isn't quite as convenient to use.

DropBox has a nice friendly interface, including a web interface. (No FTP though.)
