I'm confused about how Outlook's Send/Receive interacts with IMAP email accounts. Certainly an explicit Send/Receive is required to check for mail on a POP account, but I thought that IMAP servers"pushed" or somehow signaled changes such as new mail, reads, deletes, etc. Or does Outlook only "listen" when it is sending/receiving? Does it matter what I set the Send/Receive interval to? I'm hoping that a better understanding will help me resolve the following specific issue.
I"m having trouble getting Outlook (both 2010 and 2013) to pick up changes on a Google Apps email account. When I read an email on my iPhone, I see it marked as read on the gmail web server, but Outlook seems to take a very long time to pick up the change. How can I speed this up?
