Our CEO is having a problem with Outlook 2007 SP2 connected to Exchange 2007 SP2. Sometimes Outlook or Exchange simply refuses to delete read messages highlighted in the Inbox. This happens when using the X icon or the delete key. Restart Outlook and the problem goes away.

I've tried applying all the latest SPs & hotfixes, MS Office Diagnostics, reinstalling Office 2007, changing operating systems even! (Vista -> Windows 7) Nothing prevents this behavior from occurring. The system is a new (<1 yr old) Dell Precision workstation with all the trimmings.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?

Can you right-click and choose delete? Are you using Exchange or is Outlook using a PST file? – djhowell Oct 13 '09 at 14:29
Good questions. Right-click >> delete produces same behavior, and using with Exchange 2007 SP2. – Sean O Oct 13 '09 at 15:14
If changes at the client side did not help, then this seems a server issue to me then? – Arjan Oct 13 '09 at 15:52
Can you delete a message through OWA? – djhowell Oct 13 '09 at 16:34
@Arjan: There are 15+ other users on the server, and the issue existed with Exchange 2007 SP1, SP2 didn't effect it. @djhowell: I'll ask him to try that, and on the same message(s) he cannot delete in Outlook. – Sean O Oct 13 '09 at 17:49
