Ever since a few months ago, Notepad++ now automatically makes clickable links whenever you type a URL. I hate it! It makes it much more difficult to edit html documents because instead of clicking in the middle of the text url to change it, it instead opens the link in the web browser.

How can I permanently disable this awful feature?

How on earth did the Notepad++ developers miss the mark this badly? – tponthieux Mar 23 '15 at 22:24

@tponthieux Agreed! – techaddict Apr 9 '15 at 21:54

@tponthieux I agree, there's no reason for a plain text editor to be inserting clickable links into the editor by default. – KoKo May 18 '15 at 22:34

On the latest notepad++ version 6.7.9.2 you have to uncheck this option:

Settings » Preferences » Misc » Clickable Link settings

You have to re-open your notepad++ to take effect

@iamkrillin - Nope. Googling it is much more efficient than looking through several hundred options. – Pikamander2 Dec 22 '15 at 19:07

This should be an Opt-in, not an Opt-out feature! I agree with above comments: this is an annoyance that has no apparent benefit in an editor! I would be interested to know the developer's rational for adding this. – ReverseEMF May 16 at 17:20

As a Win 10 user, I found I needed to run Notepad++ as Administrator in order for this setting to "take". Probably true for other versions of Windows.

I discovered this after several attempts to uncheck the Clickable Link Settings Checkbox. After several episodes of bouncing Notepad++ and finding the checkbox still checked, I Googled my way to this solution ;)
