I am have been using Microsoft Outlook 2007 for many months without any problems, connecting to my Gmail account for both sending and receiving messages. Now, all of a sudden, I can't receive email messages at all, and every attempt to do so returns this error message:
Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
I have tripled checked all of the settings and they are just as Google says they should be.
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL:
Use SSL: Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL:
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465
I've also tried using Google's instructions for IMAP and that fails. I've have tried pop.googlemail.com as the POP3 server. It passes the sending test every time. It just fails on receiving.
There were no Windows updates or other changes to my computer, it just quit working all of a sudden. Pop is enabled in Gmail and it works just fine in the mail app on my iPad, no syncing problems at all. Does anyone know why this might not connect? I can't think of anything else to try. I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit. Windows firewall is enabled but not configured to block Outlook at all.
