Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We have BT infinity (fibre optic) setup in our office with a BT Hub 3.0. Sometimes we have to work remotely (from home) and have been using logmein to access the network and work on the computers remotely. However, this is a bit clunky and thought that setting up a VPN would be better. Ideally, we should be able to connect to the network and thus act like another member of the network and thus access network resources (ie: file server, server, printer) remotely.

Any ideas how to start, I have a static IP for our network already. We are all running windows 7/vista/xp.

It's worth mentioning that we have a centos linux server (file server) which is running Samba for window sharing. so its a windows network (not domain based)

also, what security steps should be taken to ensure not just anyone can login.
