How is the 260 character limit a problem? Can you edit your question to let us know more about your situation? –  iglvzx Feb 16 '13 at 23:45

There is no way to obtain the functionality you are after. the limitation is caused by the $MFT name tables, and cannot be modified.

The 260 value is MAX_PATH, a Windows architectural limitation, not an NTFS limitation. The NTFS limitation is 255 per folder/directory in the path. The NT kernel limits the total path length to 32,767 characters. –  SecurityMatt Feb 17 '13 at 6:39

wrong, you can use "\\?\" prefix to access fully qualified name maximum 32767 characters –  Lưu Vĩnh Phúc Sep 13 at 8:04

You can't change the character length that I know of without a good deal of complications. My question to you however is why would you need a folder with over 260 characters?

hi, I don't need each folder character length 260. i am developing a web application when i pass 260 character for my folder path i give a error so it's too short for me. –  user990513 Feb 17 '13 at 19:27

Acutally. Try putting it inside a lot of folders with really long names. This should increase path length. –  Griffin Feb 17 '13 at 19:32
