I have two blank files on my desktop. I can't rename them, and I can't delete them either! When I try and drag it over to the Recycle Bin, nothing happens. When I try and delete one of them, I get the message "Could not find this item".

What are the file name's, extentions need more info. Is show system files on or off we need more details – ben950 Feb 28 '13 at 16:27
Have you tried opening a command prompt, going to the desktop folder, and deleting it using the erase command? – snowdude Feb 28 '13 at 16:29
Have you tried booting into safe mode and attempt to delete from there? – techturtle Feb 28 '13 at 17:04
Do you know whether the files are on your desktop or the common public desktop? Right-click, Properties, go to the General tab, and look at Location. – Scott Feb 28 '13 at 17:22
Have you pressed F5 to refresh the desktop to see if they are truly still there? Does the problem persists after a reboot? – CharlieRB Feb 28 '13 at 18:01
