I'm having trouble connecting with Windows Remote Desktop from one computer to another. Both computers run Windows 8 Pro and they are on the same network and in the same homegroup.
On both computers: Verified that remote desktop application is allowed in the firewall Allowed remote connections, as described on several webpages
On the local computer I have tried both the metro Remote Desktop App and the non-metro one. The same thing happens in both. I enter the computer name or IP of the remote computer, and get to a login screen. There is just one local account on the remote machine, so I enter that. Login fails, the error message I'm getting says something like "Your authentication information didnt work".
Originally I had a live account on both computers, but I changed it to a local account on the remote computer, since some claimed live accounts could cause issues. It didnt make any difference.
But if I try to connect the other way, from the remote to the local, it works!
So I have ruled out firewall or router issues. I have ruled out password issues. Is there some magic I need to do with the accounts?
There is a similar question, but that relates to Windows 7, so that doesnt apply here.
