I have been doing alot of reading on various types of virtualization but the one that really has me confused is Application Virtualization. Not so much the sandbox aspect but the fact that you can launch an application from the internet on your computer without installing it, and it can even access your own filesystem. I originally assumed it just ran on a VM that used RDP to connect to it, but clearly it is actually somehow streaming the application.

I downloaded spoon and packaged an application and set up the server on my pc locally. I was able to run the application from the serve.

Does any of this have to do with Virtual Machines (OS)?

Is it at all possible to run a virtualized application silently(without notice) on the local machine with a remote machine controling it, via RDP or VNC?
