By default there are two panels - one with buttons of active applications, and one with favorite shortcuts. Is it possible to somehow make one panel, where shortcuts will be placed, and in the same time they will server as 'window buttons', in Windows Aero/Ubuntu Unity/Gnome 3 style?

Simply combining both panels into a single one is straightforward (I can post a how-to if you're interested), but I don't think it's possible to make the icons serve both purposes. –  Dennis Mar 5 '13 at 18:21

Yep. Combining both the panels atleast is good. You can follow the steps here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2028896/how-to-make-ubuntu-linux-look-like-windows-7.html

Welcome to Super User! Whilst this may theoretically answer the question, it would be preferable to include the essential parts of the answer here, and provide the link for reference. –  pabouk Feb 2 at 0:22
