I want to disable aero, however I don't have admin rights the admin has blocked Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization and I haven't found another way to do it, does anybody know if it's possible?

If you can find a way to execute the following command, you should be able to open the relevant Control Panel page. Try saving it into a .bat file and opening it.

%windir%\system32\control.exe desk.cpl,Themes,@Themes

Thanks for the advice, I can actually get to that window, but the option to select another theme is greyed out... –  darkajax Mar 5 '13 at 22:48

the command to stop Aero is

net stop uxsms

But it wont work without admin rights

Without administrator rights you can't enable/disable Aero from command prompt or hack the registry. But how about right click on the Desktop→Personalize and then choose the Windows 7 Basic or classic theme. I think you can do this without Administrative Rights.

On my Windows 7 i can do that without Administrator rights, but it seems that the Administrator changed the group policy on your PC. That means there is no way to change the design with restricted rights. –  Devid Mar 5 '13 at 22:41
