The system doesn't seem to be able to see the mic. However it works perfectly fine in my Ubuntu installation (I have dual boot). It also used to work fine in Windows 7 before.

The motherboard is: PEGATRON IPMSB-H61

I'm using an A4Tech HS-100 headset (with Realtek drivers, as otherwise it doesn't work at all) and plugging it into the front panel.

In Recording Devices the mic is marked as Not plugged in:

Not plugged in

and there are no Input devices or something similar in Realtek HD Audio Manager:

All the drivers that I found on the motherboard vendor's CD are installed too.

What else could be missing?

What does Device Manager say? –  pratnala Mar 10 '13 at 15:03

Did you use up-to-date Realtek drivers made for Windows 8? –  techie007 Mar 10 '13 at 16:52

I solved the same problem by installing old Windows 7 Realtek driver: Vista_Win7_R264_x64.exe. With new Windows 8 driver microphone didn't work. Realtek download page now gives new version, hopefully you have an old driver from Windows 7.

Unfortunately, installing the new driver didn't help at all... –  szx Apr 12 '13 at 16:25
