My computer operating Windows 7 has gone down with serious problems, I have another computer with Windows 7 (Professional). With this later one, I try to access the files from the failing computer.

However I cannot access the files that were on the portable drive of the failing computer because I am not the administrator. Can anyone help?

Sorry, your question has confused me, it may just be the choice of words/lost in translation, but you wrote "...the files that were on the portable drive"; this indicates they are no longer on the drive, is that right? Also, do you have 2 computers with the same problem or does 1 work and the other not? – Dave Mar 11 '13 at 10:13
maybe its a virus, right click, open in new tab? – Davidenko Mar 11 '13 at 10:16
On which computer are you not the administrator? The failing one or the second, working, one? Or maybe you weren't admin on neither of them? – Tonin Mar 11 '13 at 10:35
Try changing permissions as mentioned here. – Karan Mar 11 '13 at 18:46
