I had a home network setup with my main computer running Windows XP connected to a Linksys router. I configured my router to use WEP with MAC filtering using a network name SIERRA. I connected other wireless computers to the internet via SIERRA. All went as planned until I replaced the XP computer with one running Windows 7 about 9 months ago. Since then, a new network connection was created called NETWORK 2. My wireless laptops still create LAN connections to SIERRA and seem to work fine.
However, when I click on the Network icon on the Windows 7 computer and select Properties, the display shows me connecting to the internet via
Network 2 which I never created (or at least I don't think I did) and it indicates that
Network 2 is my home network. The network name I created (the SSID on my router) is
SIERRA, which my wireless computers use.
Why doesn't my Windows 7 computer also utilize this network? Also, if I click on the Network icon in the Windows 7 notification tray, it shows me connected to
Network 2 with Internet Access. Below that, it shows
Dial up and
VPN and when I click on it, there's SIERRA. I try to click on connect to bandit, but an error box eventually shows up indicating "Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)" "modem or other connecting device has reported an error".
Shouldn't I be able to connect directly to SIERRA as I used to?
