I have a new MAC (Mountain Lion) and I am trying to connect at my small office Windows desktop using the MAC built in VPN and the Microsoft RDP software. The problem is that my home network address is 192.168.1.X and so is the network at the office. If I change the network at home (I can), then I can connect with no problem. But if I go to a place where the network is the same (and I have no control over it) it will not connect, since the default gateway 192.168.1.1 will re-route the traffic inside the source network. Or if my router resets and gets the old address I cannot connect until I change it back.
How can I tell my MAC to go outside my network and use the target gateway (which is the same number as mine?). What can I add in my routing table to bypass my gateway and look for the target computer outside my home network? Thanks.
