Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I wanted to change ISPs and am wondering what options I have in my area. I've visited a few sites claiming to be directories, but they seem to be inaccurate.

I live in the Chicago suburbs. Is there a reliable directory or other method other than watching junk mail fliers?

I don't care about the delivery mechanism of the ISP; it could be wireless, wired, satellite, etc.

collinsk.acndirect.com/default.asp A friend of mine started putting this together a while back. I haven't tried it recently, but it looked promising. –  Kruug Mar 22 '13 at 13:49

Not really a question for SU. Try on Webapps –  Julian Knight Mar 22 '13 at 14:06

@JulianKnight: I don't think it would be on topic there. Its FAQ says the question should be about Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Google, or any other website which behaves like an application. –  Dennis Mar 22 '13 at 14:09

Silly me, I assumed this was a question about a web app rather than about a paper directory? –  Julian Knight Mar 22 '13 at 14:33

You could try DSL Reports (they don't report only on DSL, but cable and fiber too). Here's the search tool: http://www.dslreports.com/search.

Unfortunately, their data wasn't accurate or complete in my area. –  glenviewjeff Mar 28 '13 at 1:47
