First I will describe my layout and then the problem.
I am a teacher and as normal I use projector in classroom. I have a laptop and a PC. First PC is connected to ATEN video splitter (1 input, 2 outputs) as an input. One output of the splitter is connected to the 24 inch monitor and the other output is connected to ATEN video switch (2 inputs, 1 output) as an input. The second input is my external display on my laptop. And finaly output of the switch is connected to the projector.
|--------------------> MONITOR PC -> SPLITTER -| |-----| |---> SWITCH ---> PROJECTOR LAPTOP -------|
And now the big problem. When I was using Windows 7 it was all ok. But now I have Windows 8 on both PC and laptop. When I use the laptop and the projector it all work ok. (Because the second output of the laptop acts as a second video output.
But on PC is a whole different story. There is only one output from the PC. And because it is connected to the splitter Windows don't know which display is connected to it. It keeps switching the setting of the display from VGA device to Philips monitor.
And it keeps ruining my resolution, screen on the monitor is blinking, and the biggest problem is, that the projector keeps failing to set the resolution, because Windows keeps changing it.
The monitor is 1920*1080 default and projector supports 1366*768. If I change it to 1366*768 it works for few seconds but then Windows switch the settings of the display and it is ruined again..
How can I set the display setting to be fixed as one display?
PS. When Windows change the display setting it makes "new hardware pluged in" sound, which is annoying
