Best free organizer software (or alternative to Outlook Calendar)?

What is the best alternative to Outlook Calendar (but not the open office) for the Windows with the organizer and scheduler features?

If you just need a calendar then Google Calendar is a good alternative. You can set it to send email reminders and (where available) SMS reminders.

You can also use it offline using Gears.

Until version 3 of Thunderbird arrives later this year, the Lightning calendar add-in is fully functional, allowing you to view and create multiple calendars either locally, or on the Web using the iCalendar and CalDAV protocols.

Another Thunderbird add-on, the Provider for Google Calendar, lets you view your Google Calendar within Lightning, and even cache a copy locally.
