The quickest way is using a ste such as Listentoyoutube, it will convert the video to an MP3 file that you can download.

Other ones include Video2MP3 and vid2mp3. Just type "Online youtube mp3 converter" you will find hundreds, the ones I have listed here are ones I have used in the past and can say all work.

YouTube terms of service forbid content recording of any type. I'm sorry. But you will need to get the answer somewhere else. (edit: guess not)

Those terms of use are bogus. By the very act of watching or listening to something on YT you are already (a) downloading, (b) copying, (c) reproducing and (d) displaying the content ... I doubt that's enforcable in any way in most jurisdictions. – Joey Oct 19 '09 at 18:33
It's quite irrelevant, I'm afraid. As online content residing in a server in the USA, the terms of service can be enforced on other countries by USA law. You would be right if YouTube travelled in a CD and could be bought in some countries in Europe, for instance. – A Dwarf Oct 19 '09 at 18:35
Mind you I'm avoiding saying what I think of these terms of service (I actually abhor them for other reasons). But my reply it's the only objective answer I can give. Regardless of country of origin, I don't think SuperUser should be a place where discussions should be had on breaking third-party services or products TOS. That too breaks SuperUser TOS. – A Dwarf Oct 19 '09 at 18:38
I wasn't against this answer, actually. Those TOS just made me laugh :-) – Joey Oct 19 '09 at 18:39
Oh, on that note: "personal use" may cover pretty much, though. It migh be that downloading the audio stream of a video for listening at home falls under exactly this. – Joey Oct 19 '09 at 18:42

To rip the audio from a video locally, just use audio ripping software such as the one found here http://www.aoamedia.com/audioextractor.htm (free version). The non-free version just has extra features such as audio conversion and voice changing. If it's a YouTube video, you could download the video either by using Mozilla Firefox Plugins or use an online web service such as www.keepvid.com
