So, I want to run an android app on windows, kik messenger in case that matters, but I don't want to use bluestacks, as it's heavy and I can't run it on small windows that I could put background.

Could I install the .apk somehow on my computer?

You would have to port the application to a normal Java application in order to do this. If you don't have the source to the program then this cannot be done. You are unable to run Android application without a program like Bluestacks. The Android Emulator requires the source code to the program its designed for the developer of kik messenger not you as a user. –  Ramhound Apr 9 '13 at 11:02

Look at WindowsAndroid. Here's a good article about it. I haven't tried it myself - BlueStacks works well enough for me for now.

I've tried it, too unstable and lack of proper tool to install apps. ADB isn't really my thing. –  Christian Apr 12 '13 at 19:42

There's a solution, and it existed when I asked this question. I stumbled upon this:

Works fine, and doesn't withdraw all resources from my computer and isn't on background all the time.

The thread says "thanks to the continuous assaults related to advertising, which with a little care you can not install because the installation optional, I stopped the project." – also, the download link was removed from the post. Can you please summarize the most important parts in your answer, and include an explanation what it is you're linking to, and how to install it? That would be more helpful for future visitors. –  slhck Nov 6 '13 at 22:34
You can torrent it, or find a mirror. –  Christian Nov 7 '13 at 16:22
Ok, but where? Imagine I'm looking for the same thing as you are, and I stumble upon your answer here on Super User. Anticipating to find the answer to my question, I just see a link to a dead forum thread. How would I find the tool, really? You must have gotten it somewhere, so maybe you could just link to a mirror, or a Torrent tracker, etc. And please include a basic description of what it is you're linking to. See: Are answers that just contain links elsewhere really “good answers”? –  slhck Nov 7 '13 at 16:29
Well, it's on piratebay, as a free software it isn't breaking any laws, I think? thepiratebay.sx/torrent/8139999 –  Christian Nov 7 '13 at 19:26
