I am testing Exchange Replication and have set up a test environment.
All servers are VMs running on one VM host server with internal networking configured.
A pfSense appliance is connected to the VM network which is connected to my physical network and is treated as my WAN in pfSense. I then have a LAN and OPT1 connections as my 2 sites, with AD & Exchange servers in both sites. These are replicating and can see the Internet vai my physical network (WAN) fine.
I now need to set it up to work externally. I therefore need set the MX record of my domain to point to the IP on my physical network (via an external IP NAT'd to this address) to reach my Exchange servers.
Do I need to configure 2 pfSense appliances, one for each site, and use 2 different IPs on my physical network, or can I use rules to direct them based on the external IP they originated from?
If I configure 2 pfSense appliances would I need an OPT1 connection to the other appliance to allow them to talk directly?
Not a big networking person and its all confusing me a little :S
