I'm trying to create a guest account on a Dell Latitude 10 - ST2 running Windows 8 Professional. The machine is primarily used in our company's domain but we need the guest account to be assigned to the tablet, not the AD.
Using the Add a user wizard I set the user name to
guest and domain name to
OUR-WIN8-TAB (the computer's name). I selected "Guest" from the access level selector on the next page. The final page says:
You're almost done The following user will be able to sign in to this PC and access system resources. OUR-WIN8-TAB\guest
However, when I click the Finish button, I get this quite discouraging alert popup:
You're almost done The user account 'OUR-WIN8-TAB\guest' does not exist. Please check the name and domain and try again.
Things I've tried without success:
- Enabling the built in guest account (It won't let me sign in because of "unauthorized login type" or something - error message is in Finnish. I tried changing the account's password but nothing I've tried meets password complexity requirements.)
- Using another name for the account such as
- Giving the user standard access instead of guest
- Leaving the domain unfilled (won't let me proceed)
I've struggled with the machine for two hours and am slowly going crazy. Any ideas what to try next?
