I have a Win7 x64 host machine running a Virtualbox (4.2.12) with a clean Win7 x64 guest machine. I installed the guest additions on the guest machine.
I want to launch a program on the guest machine but can't get it working. I tried
vboxmanage guestcontrol "Machine" exec --image "C:\Windows\notepad.exe" --username "User" --password "Pass" --verbose
From what I can see there is no process started on the guest machine, and on the host the command will not return, simply saying
Waiting for guest to start proces ...
Waiting for process to exit ...
Is there anything that needs to be done or configured before using guestcontgrol exec? Am I better off using remote Powershell (I'm going to use the box for doing testing of windows installer setups).
Rebooting the guest machine a few times can get it to work a few times, but not reliably.
There is nothing logged in the virtualbox logs when the guestcontrol command is executed (i.e. neither success nor failure). If it is possible to enable a more verbose log level I would like to know how.
It sometimes work (intermittently), usually once or twice in a session before it stops working requiring a restart of the VM. It may be this issue, but its hard to say https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/9650
