In windows, all hyperlinks in web pages, e-mails or office documents are opened with the default web browser registered to the system.
Is there any way to open different hyperlinks with different applications? For example, if the link is to an html file then open it with default web browser but if it is a link to a word file then direct it the internet explorer (or MSWord would be better).
The problem that leads to this: I am using chrome as my default browser but when I click on a link that leads to an office document on the company sharepoint portal, chrome tries to download it. On the other hand internet explorer recognizes sharepoint content and directs the link to the correct office application and that opens the document from the portal. Edits are saved directly to the portal.
