I am having an odd issue on my computer, a Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), that has a VirtualBox VM for Ubuntu 12.04. Naturally, I would think that using my host machine (Mac) should be overall faster than using a VM (Linux) because a VM has more computational overhead than its host. Moreover, I would imagine that both has similar Internet speeds because both share the same network connection.
However, it appears that using Google Chrome on the VM is must faster than using Chrome on the host. For example, I tried to load a StackOverflow question onto my Mac's Chrome browser and the request timed-out. I tried the same URL on the Ubuntu VM and it loaded in less than a second.
Why could this be happening? Both machines are using the same Chrome version and are logged into the same Google account (meaning that both are using the exact same extensions and plugins). Also, I did clear out both browser's cookies and cache before testing this, so I do not think that could be the issue.
